WOD

20 Minutes
As Many Rounds As Possible

5 Pullups
10 Push Press (45lbs, 55lbs or 65lbs)
15 Push ups

We started the class with a review of the Press. Later everyone seemed to immediately forget the mechanics the moment I handed them a barbell (except Susan.) Then we spent some time going over the mechanics of Kipping Pullups. I'll say it again. The workouts in Crossfit that don't include a squat or a pullup are far and few between. When you get kipping pullups you actually start to look forward to doing them. Doing pullups are my favorite part of the day. Ninja Trainer Jack showed up and helped with the pullups.

Then we got down the business of the WOD. As it turns out I'm a little absent minded as a coach. I forgot to mention that AMRAP are done in the order written. So the first round was a little rough. Everyone wanted to do pushups first and avoid the press. I wanted today to be heavy. Because when it gets heavy everyone that was rolling their eyes while we practice with a broom stick starts dropping the bars. I love it. After the first round everyone found their groove. Rebe immediately started shooting me dirty looks, Susans form was spot on like she was in an instructional video and Jess just wanted me to go away. Different day, same stuff. Camilo gutted out the last two rounds and learned the difference between over head and above the head. Jordan always looks like a champ anytime she has to put something above her head. Chris was banging out push presses like she had done it her whole life.

Oh yeah, did I mention they did all their presses out in the rain? Crazy Arizona people liked it. I coached from the safety of the dry garage.

Rebe 7 rounds (55lbs)
Jess 6 rouns plus 5 pullups and 5 presses (45 lbs)
Jordan 6 rounds (45lbs)
Susan 6 rounds (55lbs)
Chris 6 rounds (45lbs)
Camilo 5 rounds plus 10 presses (55lbs)

Jack and I stuck around afterwards and did another trainer WOD. Curses were uttered, hand gestures were given, reps were called into question. Basically we had a good time because remember it doens't have to be fun, to be fun. But it was a truly horrifying WOD. And he beat me again.

Nice work people.

Mark and Cindy had a son graduating from DVHS. A big Congratulations to them.
And Dylan and Tyler were going to hike the Grand Canyon. That is functional fitness in action right there.

  1. Jack says:

I’m assuming it’s due to his legendary humility (try not to laugh too hard and spit up your morning coffee reading that last part) that Jake omitted the fact that he was doing thrusters with 10# more, and better form, than me.
In other words, I might have beaten him on time but since he did 400# more of aggregate work than I did, I sure as hell didn’t beat him head-to-head this time.
Hell, not sure I could have even finished the workout without him pushing me. Don’t care what the clock says, he beat me.
