Failed attempts. They suck, nobody likes them. One minute you're lifting more and more weight, and the next you run into a missed lift. Your grip slipped. The bar rolled out of your hands. You could feel your back rounding. Hell, maybe the weight just didn't move. Either way it sucks. You're so close, you can feel it.
If you're lifting and you haven't missed a lift yet, you just aren't really trying. Failed max lifts mean you've run into your limit. Whether that limit is technical or pure horsepower, it means you now know precisely (assuming you're taking incremental jumps) where your limit is. This is good news. This is your yardstick, your measuring tool. If you're deadlifting and you haven't missed a lift yet, you will. This isn't an obstacle, it's a diagnostic tool. It's a litmus test for progress. Treat is as such.
Great day today. Today was the return of Heavy Deads (as always when you read those last two words, imagine them with reverb in a deep booming voice, a la 50's horror flick style).
After a brief warm-up jog, we got down to business. This time everyone knew their max so we quickly got down to business and started slapping on the weight. Form wasn't an issue. Everyone easily matched their previous PR on the first attempt. Camilo graduated to the big boy bar. Apparently this guy was built for lifting. Dylan started pushing some serious weight, Mark wasn't far behind. It was beautiful to watch.
Susan amazed today with her strength, I'm not sure she realizes quite how strong she is. Cindy frustrated herself a little with a few missed lifts, but I don't think she realizes how well rounded she is. Running up against her current (and temporary) ceiling is nothing to be mad about, she bumped her max by 10 lbs. Tyler also looked great, bumping her PR until at one point the weight just wouldn't budge. He form looked excellent throughout. Jess did the business, in fact she might have even left 5 lbs on the table. We'll know for sure next time. Rebster did this workout for the first time, and she didn't disappoint either. Jordan… bumped her max by 35 lbs! Yes, read it again just to make sure because I'm not kidding (only Mark and Camillo made a bigger jump).
Great workout, not bad for one month's worth of progress, eh?
