Fridays are normally slow days for training, so it was a nice surprise when three people actually showed up. After a little warmup with shoulder with weighted rotations we got down to business. Now, the bench press might be a typical gym favorite but it's not exactly a staple of the CrossFit workout. The reason is that it's not the most functional movement (unless you need to push salesmen away from you at a car dealership) and we tend to focus on the more gymnastic variant, the push-up. In addition, spending too much time on the bench has a tendency to tighten up the pecs and cause poor posture as the shoulders rotate inwards due to chronic chest tightness. That said, you never know when you'll need to lift a car off your chest so slapping on a little weight and getting some variation is never a bad idea.

It seems that almost every man ever born is familiar with this movement and Dylan is no different. After the warmup (including an unweighted set) he slapped 135# on the rack and went to town. Yeah… I get the feeling he's done this before.

Susan as usual took about a minute to find her form. Then like a machine she just started putting more weight on for every set. Tyler didn't do too bad either. A little more tentative, but she got down to business and worked at the perfect intensity. After which everyone stayed a little longer and practiced their kipping pull-ups. Dylan's got one, he just needs to chain them together now and both Susan and Tyler and just on the cusp of getting it.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, you've earned it.
