Dana selflessly offered to drive through the toes with the calves, and yard on the bar with the arms, a feat which most of us only dream of being strong enough to do. He did so beautifully, and with minimal complaint. Here we can see the forces at odds with each other; after the hip has fully opened providing the true driving force, arms and feet battle to negate the work the hip has just done, pushing against each other. If the legs were quicky retracted while the arms worked their magic, Dana would magically pull himself down under the bar to a lower catch position. His athletic prowess allows him to do 135# muscle cleans instead.
